இலங்கைத்தீவின் இனப்படுகொலை காலத்தில் தொடரவிருந்த கடுமையான வன்முறையின் ஆரம்பமாக ‘கறுப்பு ஜூலை’ அமைந்ததாக Conservative கட்சியின் தலைவர் தெரிவித்தார்.
கறுப்பு ஜூலையின் 43-ஆவது நினைவு தினத்தை முன்னிட்டு கனடாவின் பிரதான எதிர்க்கட்சித் தலைவரும், Conservative கட்சித் தலைவருமான Pierre Poilievre அறிக்கை ஒன்றை வெளியிட்டுள்ளார்.
‘கறுப்பு ஜூலை’ என்பது இலங்கை அரசாங்கத்தின் கொடூரத்தின் உச்சக்கட்டமாக அமையவில்லை என குறிப்பிட்ட அந்த அறிக்கை, மாறாக 25 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக நீடித்த இலங்கைத்தீவின் இனப்படுகொலையின் போது தொடரவிருந்த இன்னும் மிகக் கொடூரமான வன்முறையின் ஆரம்பமாக அது அமைந்தது என தெரிவித்தது.
நான்கு தசாப்தங்களுக்கு மேலாகியும், தமிழ் மக்களின் காயங்கள் இன்னும் ஆறாமல் உள்ளதாக தெரிவித்த Pierre Poilievre, தொடரும் செம்மணி மனித உடல்களின் மீட்புகள், கட்டாயக் கடத்தல்கள், பெருமளவிலான அட்டூழியங்கள் தொடர்பான கசப்பான உண்மைகளை மீண்டும் ஒருமுறை எதிர்கொள்ள உலகை நிர்ப்பந்தித்துள்ளது என கூறினார்.
இலங்கைத்தீவின் உள்நாட்டுப் போர் முடிவுக்கு வந்திருந்தாலும், உண்மையான நல்லிணக்கம் ஏற்படவில்லை எனவும் இந்த கொடூரமான வன்முறையில் ஈடுபட்டவர்கள் நீதியின் முன் நிறுத்தப்படவில்லை எனவும் Pierre Poilievre தனது அறிக்கையில் நினைவு படுத்தினார்.

Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on the Anniversary of Black July

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on the anniversary of Black July and the start of the Sri Lankan Civil War:
“Forty-three years ago marked the horrific transformation of decades of repression and discrimination into an outright calamity as the Sri Lankan government unleashed a campaign of genocide against the Tamil people, leaving thousands dead and tens of thousands more fleeing their homes.
“In the ensuing 26 years of civil war, Tamils were targeted with horrific violence and became victims of some of the worst massacres the region has ever seen. Innocent Tamils became the targets of government-backed pogroms, and communities and homes that had stood for generations were reduced to ashes.
“Black July did not mark the culmination of the government’s cruelty, but the beginning of more brutal violence that would extend over the more than 25-year-long Sri Lankan Genocide.
“More than four decades later, the wounds of the Tamil people remain open. The recent discoveries at the Chemmani mass grave site have once again forced the world to confront the legacy of these forced disappearances and mass atrocities.
“Although the civil war has ended, Sri Lanka has not seen true reconciliation, and the perpetrators of this brutal violence have not faced justice.
“On this anniversary, Canada must build on its legacy of fighting for accountability – just as Prime Minister Stephen Harper did by boycotting the Commonwealth summit – by demanding that the Rajapaksa regime and all those responsible for these crimes are prosecuted at an international court or tribunal.
