கறுப்பு ஜூலையின் நாற்பத்து மூன்று ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பின்னரும் பறிபோன ஒவ்வொரு உயிரையும், சிதைக்கப்பட்ட ஒவ்வொரு குடும்பத்தையும், உயிர் பிழைத்த ஒவ்வொருவரையும் நினைவு கூர்வதாக மாகாணசபை உறுப்பினர் விஜய் தணிகாசலம் தெரிவித்தார்.
கறுப்பு ஜூலையின் 43-வது நினைவு தினத்தை முன்னிட்டு Ontario அரசாங்கத்தின் இணை அமைச்சரும் Scarborough – Rouge Park தொகுதியின் மாகாணசபை உறுப்பினருமான விஜய் தணிகாசலம் அறிக்கை ஒன்றை வெளியிட்டுள்ளார்.
கறுப்பு ஜூலையில் உயிர் தப்பியர்வர்களின் அனுபவங்கள் வெறும் கடந்த காலக் கதைகள் அல்ல என குறிப்பிட்ட அவர், அவை உயிர் பிழைத்தவர்களால் சுமந்து செல்லப்பட்டு, அவர்களது பிள்ளைகளுக்கும் பேரப்பிள்ளைகளுக்கும் கடத்தப்படும் உயிருள்ள நினைவுகள் ஆகும் எனத் தெரிவித்தார்.
‘தமிழ் இனப்படுகொலை குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வு வார சட்டம்’ (Bill 104) நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டிருப்பது, Ontario மாகாணத்தில் தமிழ் இனப்படுகொலை குறித்த வரலாறு நினைவு கூறப்படுவதையும் கற்பிக்கப்படுவதையும் உறுதி செய்ய உதவுகிறது எனவும் அவர் கூறினார்.

Today, Tamil people across the world solemnly mark the 43rd anniversary of Black July.
In July 1983, the Sri Lankan state orchestrated a series of anti-Tamil pogroms that targeted innocent Tamil civilians. Thousands were killed, many were injured and displaced, and Tamil homes, businesses and places of worship were destroyed. Families were separated, entire communities were devastated, and countless Tamils were forced to flee their homeland in search of safety.
Many of those who endured, escaped and survived Black July later rebuilt their lives here in Canada. They are our neighbours, community leaders, business owners, parents and grandparents and many are constituents whom I have the honour of representing in Scarborough – Rouge Park.
Their experiences are not simply stories from the past. They are living memories carried by survivors and passed down to their children and grandchildren. We have a responsibility to preserve their testimony, teach this history and ensure that future generations understand the consequences of hatred, persecution and silence.
The passing of Bill 104, the Tamil Genocide Education Week Act, helps ensure that the history of the Tamil genocide is remembered and taught in Ontario. Through education, remembrance and advocacy, we must continue to honour the victims, stand with survivors and pursue truth, justice and accountability.
Forty-three years later, we remember every life taken, every family torn apart and every survivor who carried this history with them. Their stories will be told. Their suffering will not be erased. We will never forget.
