பிரதமர் ஜஸ்ரின் ட்ரூடோ, கோவிட் – 19 நெருக்கடிக் காலம் முழுவதும் நலிவடைந்த பிரிவினருக்கு உதவி புரிவதற்குக் கனடிய அரசு உறுதியுடன் இருப்பதாக அறிவித்துள்ளார். உணவு வங்கிகளுக்கு 100 மில்லியன் டொலர் வழங்கப்படுமென நேற்று (வெள்ளிக் கிழமை) அறிவித்த அவர், வீடற்ற நிலையில் இருக்கும் தனி நபர்களுக்கு உதவியாக வழங்கப்படுமென அறிவிக்கப்பட்ட 157 மில்லியன் டொலரும், குடும்ப வன்முறையை எதிர்கொள்ளும் பெண்களுக்கும், சிறுவர்களுக்கும் உதவியாக வழங்கப்படுமென அறிவிக்கப்பட்ட 50 மில்லியன் டொலரும், தேவைப்படும் சமூகங்களுக்கு ஒதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக இன்று (சனிக்கிழமை) அறிவித்தார்.
இந்தப் பணத்தில் 40 மில்லியன் டொலர், நாடெங்கும் உள்ள பெண்கள் ஷெல்ட்டர்களுக்கும், பாலியல் தாக்குதலால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டோருக்கான நிலையங்களுக்கும், 10 மில்லியன் டொலர் வன்முறையில் இருந்து தப்பிச் செல்லும் பூர்வ குடிப் பெண்களுக்கும், சிறுவர்களுக்குமான அவசர ஷெல்ட்டர்களுக்கும் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. தேவைகளுக்கு ஏற்ப இட வசதியை வாடகைக்குப் பெற்றுக் கொள்வதற்கும், இடங்களை மேலும் பாதுகாப்பாக மாற்றுவதற்கும் இந்தப் பணம் பயன்படுத்தப்படும்.
எதிர்வரும் 48 மணி நேரத்தில் பல மில்லியன் சுவாசக் கவசங்களின் தொகுதி யொன்று கனடாவை வந்தடையுமெனவும் பிரதமர் அறிவித்தார். சமஷ்டி அரசு மாகாணங்களுடன் இணைந்து அவற்றின் மருத்துவப் பொருட்களைத் தேவைப்படும் இடங்களுக்குக் கொண்டு செல்வதற்கு உதவியளிக்கிறது. இந்தப் பொருட்களை இயலுமான விரைவில் சேகரித்து, விநியோகம் செய்வதற்கு உதவியாகக் கனடிய அரசு சீனாவில் களஞ்சியம் ஒன்றை குத்தகைக்குப் பெற்றுள்ளது. இந்தப் பொருட்களை இங்கு கொண்டு வருவதற்குக் கனடிய சரக்கு விமான நிறுவனங்களையும், எயார் கனடாவையும் கனடிய அரசு எதிர்காலத்தில் பணிக்கு அமர்த்தவுள்ளது.

Updated Emergency Measures by the Canadian Federal Government on April 4th
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the Canadian government remains committed to assist vulnerable populations throughout the COVID-19 crisis. Following yesterday’s (Friday) announcement of $100 Million to food banks, today (Saturday) he announced that the $157 million committed to assist individuals facing homelessness and $50 million to assist women and children facing domestic violence have now been allocated to communities in need.
Of this, $40 million has been designated for women’s shelters, and sexual assault centres, across the country, and $10 million for emergency shelters for Indigenous women and children fleeing violence. The funds will be made available towards renting new spaces to meet the needs, and making spaces more safer.
The Prime Minister also announced that Canada will be receiving a shipment of millions of masks in the next 48 hours. The federal government is working with provinces as well to transport their medical supplies as needed. The Canadian government has also leased a warehouse in China to help collect and distribute these items as quickly as possible, and going forward will be chartering flights through Canadian cargo jet companies and Air Canada to get the materials here.
To help address the questions and concerns that kids across Canada have during these unprecedented times, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, along with Canada’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, will be holding a videoconference on Sunday, April 5th, to address questions sent by kids. Similarly, Canadian astronaut Jeremey Hansen will also be live tomorrow on YouTube to talk to children about self-isolation and staying safe.
The Prime Minister acknowledged that Canadians of all ages are looking to get the most reliable and accurate information regarding COVID-19. The federal government will continue to work with provinces and territories on getting new information to have a complete and national picture that will be shared with Canadians.
